CLEAN is my love letter to playful dressing, creative self-expression, and the joy of colour. I design for imaginative souls who see fashion as art—people who want to bring a little more magic into their wardrobes.

I’m Christina Lean, the designer, maker, and dreamer behind CLEAN. I’ve never quite fit into the conventional mould—and honestly, I never wanted to. As a deeply creative person, I’ve always found comfort and excitement in design. I’ve been obsessed with Japanese street fashion since I was a teenager, drawn to its bold colours, whimsical details, and fearless individuality. It was everything I wanted fashion to be: fun, expressive, and full of personality.

So, in 2017, I started CLEAN because I couldn’t find the kind of clothing I wanted to wear in Australia’s fashion scene—and I made it myself. My goal has always been to bring playfulness, colour, and joy to everyday dressing while keeping things ethical and sustainable.

CLEAN is made with love and designed with purpose.

I personally design, cut, and sew every CLEAN piece, using a mix of reworked vintage fabrics, secondhand bedsheets, and ethically sourced textiles featuring prints by talented surface designers. Every design is either one-of-a-kind or made in ultra-limited runs, so when you wear CLEAN, you’re wearing something truly special.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything I do—from fabric choices to packaging—because I believe fashion should be kind to both people and the planet.

My Journey

I conceptualised CLEAN while studying for my Advanced Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Technology at South Metropolitan TAFE in 2016. Since then, I’ve been designing and creating from my home, pouring love into every piece I make.

A trip to Tokyo in January 2025 reminded me exactly why I started CLEAN in the first place: to create clothes that feel like pure joy (like the Robert Indiana sculpture in Shinjuku in the photo below). Fashion should be fun, it should make you feel good, and most of all, it should be a reflection of you.
